Case Study - Black Women in Science Network

When the Academy of Medical Sciences reached out to us to host the Black Women in Science Network event at {10-11} Carlton House Terrace, we were honoured to assist.

The Black Women in Science Network provides a safe space for women of African and Caribbean heritage during the various stages of their scientific careers. This allows black women in the STEM industry to ask and give advice and feel supported in their careers.

We spoke to Vivien Kintu, Senior Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager from the Academy of Medical Sciences about why they chose the new Lower Ground Floor spaces at {10-11} Carlton House Terrace for their event, and their experience of working with our team.

Our central London location was an important factor whilst choosing a venue, alongside the event spaces our new Lower Ground Floor offers.

“It is very accessible, both in terms of travel but for the actual building itself. This was a big factor for us choosing the building as the event would run late. We also loved the layout; it allowed us to keep a space for the formal event while having a more open and dedicated space for drinks and more informal socialising. We really enjoyed the space, it worked perfectly for us.”

We believe that consistent communication is key to a successful event, so our team strive to provide regular contact throughout the planning stages. When asked how our team’s communication was in the lead up to the event, Vivien commented: “Great, I was in regular contact with the team. I really appreciated being listened to and the time and research that the team put in producing the food”.

Our on-site technicians are available to provide advice before and during your event, from assisting with presentations to incorporating audio-visual elements. Our new Lower Ground Floor spaces are equipped with top-of-the-range technical facilities to support your event, which was a highlight of the event for Vivien! “My other example would be the AV team being present. We completed a form of our wants for the event and were advised to upgrade and include the AV team. At the time I did think it was very cautious, but in hindsight I appreciated the attention to detail of making sure we had what we needed.”

When asked whether they used the new built-in technology, Vivien said: “We used the sound system and the lights. They were great because we were able to add some ‘décor’ but also create a path for people to follow”.

We were delighted that the Academy of Medical Sciences chose our new spaces for their event, and when asked what they thought of them, Vivien said: “They’re great! I did worry at the beginning that they were perhaps a bit too much of a ‘blank slate’ with limited décor, but it allowed us to personalise the space which in the long run we appreciated”.

We find post-event care equally as important as before and during. Following the event, Vivien commented: “We received great feedback. The food, drink and overall service was a big pro and people were happy”.
